II Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

God could have filled our spirits with MANY things, but the Apostle Paul tells us our spirits are filled with power, love and self-discipline.  Why these three?  I believe they temper each other and create balance. Power with love is a force for righteousness and grace.  Love with self-discipline avoids narcissism or giving one’s precious self away.  Self-discipline with power creates the possibility of cooperative and collaborative action.  And the absence of a timid nature means we have the confidence to move forward and do as Christ calls us to do.

May we feel the power, love and self- control within our spirits, and may we move into the world with confidence, working to share the love of God and the presence of the Kingdom.
