I am become like dust and ashes.
The funeral industry predicts that by 2017 as many as 1 in 2 people will request cremation over burial. Because this industry is most creative, they have begun to manufacture ways to transform ashes into things of beauty. This piece of glass is colored with the ashes of a cremated person and was given to her family as a keepsake.
On this day, when we receive the imposition of ashes as a mark of our humanity and our mortality, may we remember even ashes are beautiful in God’s eyes. They are beautiful because they mark us as those willing to accept both our mortality, and God as our immortal maker.
