How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psalm 119:103

Thoughts:
What’s your favorite food?  It is known by some within our congregation that I really enjoy marshmallow fluff.  I know, its spun sugar and has no redeeming value; except, I like it.  But I can only eat so much of it.

And I like beets.  I really do.  And I like cottage cheese.  But I can only eat so much of these (far healthier) foods too.

God’s word, according to the writer of the Psalms, is sweet and wonderful.  But, beloved, we can only “eat” so much of God’s word as well.

Please do not get me wrong.  We are invited and blessed when we engage God’s word.  That’s why each of our devotions includes biblical text. But those who insist that the only way we can know God is through the study of the word are missing the glorious width and breadth and depth of God.  God’s people must seek God in nature, in music, in conversation, in silence, and in ways that bring us into the presence of God.  Let us seek a myriad of ways we might learn of God, including God’s precious word, and the experiences He grants us to share.
