MATTHEW 7:3-5
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and fail to notice the plank in your own? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me get the speck out of your eye’, when there is a plank in your own? You fraud! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you can see clearly enough to remove your brother’s speck of dust.”

Ouch for the second time. What do you mean, Jesus, the plank (as in a 2 x 8 board) in my eye? Ouch!!!! This text reminds us that we each have areas in our lives that are not (yet) aligned with God’s will for our lives. In this text, Jesus asks us to be cautious about pointing out the error, or the sin, of others before we, on our knees, ask God to help us identify our own “issues” and work to transform self. May we be gracious with others as we yield to the transforming power of God’s grace and love.
