This I Believe: We Are Originally Blessed
THIS I BELIEVE: WE ARE ORIGINALLY BLESSED
MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2016 — Genesis 1:31
And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Have you ever heard the term, “original sin”? Most of us have. We are familiar with the story of Genesis 3, when the snake entered the garden and convinced Eve and Adam to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We are aware this is the moment when humankind chose to disobey God, and the relationship between humanity and God shifted on its perfect axis, with sin (that is missing the mark God sets for us) entering the world.
But when I read the first chapter of Genesis, particularly Genesis 1:31, I believe our original posture, our original position, is not sinful but blessed and very good. God looked out at everything that He had created and said, this is very good. That very good includes humanity, it includes you and me. Yes, we live in a post-Genesis 3 world. Yes, we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), but our original state, the state in which we are meant to live, is not original sin but original blessing.
This I believe, when God sees us, the Divine Being sees a child that is originally and always blessed. Go into this day knowing you are blessed by God.
