My sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow.”
John 10:4 – 5

Remember the children’s song, “Be careful little ears what you hear?” Well it troubled me. As long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to follow God. But God’s voice can be hard to definitively hear. What if I get confused and go astray? Did I need to be afraid of making a stranger’s voice too familiar? Then I shared my worries. My friend said this verse in John 10 brought her comfort and she knew that my desire to hear God’s voice meant I am one of His sheep. So I’ve found that I don’t have to hide in the hills. Both God’s voice and competing strangers’ voices are indeed recognizable coming from humans’ lips and pages of books and scenes from movies and “behind me saying, this is the way, walk in it.” I don’t have to be afraid. God makes sure we know the difference.
Prayer:  God help us to be brave to hear in all the messages flying through the air Your redemptive words of truth that are very present to save the world that You so love. Amen
