Lenten Devotion: 2/12/16
FRIDAY
FEBRUARY 12, 2016
This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Jeremiah 6:16
Thoughts:
Oh dear! The people in Jeremiah’s time were already in trouble. They had disappointed God, deeply; and the Prophet Jeremiah attempted over and over to counsel them back into right relationship. In this text he invites them to return to the tried and true way, the ancient paths, the words and way of God. This is the good way. This is the path that will bring rest. BUT God’s people refused to walk along these paths.
Oh dear, indeed. During this season of Lent, you and I are invited to listen for God’s voice, to meditate on the Biblical word and to open our hearts to the images that fill these pages. The purpose is to grow closer to God and to follow in the path God places before us.
The question is, will we seek God’s way in our lives or will we be like Israel. Beloved, during this special time of the year, may you and I, each day, ask God what is the path You want me to walk? With whom shall I walk, how quickly, how slowly? May we ask for God to guide us, every step of the way.
