Mark 9:33

Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?”

The disciples are so human.  And in Mark they are really, really human, meaning they just don’t ever get it.  They are constantly missing Jesus’ message, constantly mis-steppng in their own ministries, and in this scene, as they walk toward Jerusalem and Calvary, they argue about who knows what.

The disciples are so human, and so are we.  We can be on the way, in the way, and miss the very message of Jesus.  Sometimes we can work so hard at being good Christians we fall prey to the “right way” or the “only way” and we start arguing about that which is not important to Christ.  What is important is that you and I see the way Jesus lived and walked, that we model our lives after his ethic of hope, love, justice, peace and grace.  May we be found in this way, this day.
